Sustainable Soil Loss Management in Tropical Uplands: Impact on Maize-Chili Cropping Systems

چکیده
Intensive land use with inappropriate management is directly degrading South Asian uplands. A field trial was carried out on the uplands of Western Thailand a 25% slope to examine effect soil loss for sustainable crop production during two consecutive years (2010–2011). Various cropping systems conservation practices were compared maize sole (MSC). Results revealed that at minimum in intercropping system maize-chili-hedgerows tillage and fertilization 50% 61% 60% 81% less than MSC bare plot both years, respectively. Yield advantage its maximum, as indicated by highest equivalent ratios 1.28 1.21 2010 2011, respectively, maize-chili-hedgerows-intercropping fertilization. The economic returns (5925 1058 euros ha?1 respectively) also obtained from Chili fresh fruit yield maximum chili alone due greater area under cultivation intercropping. Maize-chili-hedgerows reduced increased productivity net returns, indicating promising features

ABSTRACT- Declining land productivity associated with decreasing soil organic carbon and nutrients is a significant issue in monoculture production. The field experiment with different rates of fertilizer systems (60 kg ha-1 N + 100 kg ha-1 P, 300 kg ha-1 Bio-organic (organic fertilizer), 3 kg ha-1 Bioumik (biofertilizer), 30 kg ha-1 N + 50 kg ha-1 P + 150 kg ha-1 Bio-organic fertilizer and 30...
متن کاملSoil Compaction in Tropical Organic Farming Systems and Its Impact on Natural Soil-Borne Disease Suppression: Challenges for Management
Organic farming systems still depend on intensive, mechanical soil tillage. Frequent passes by machinery traffic cause substantial soil compaction that threatens soil health. Adopting practices as reduced tillage and organic matter retention on the soil surface are considered effective ways to control soil compaction. In tropical regions, however, the acceleration of soil organic matter decompo...
